I made a Tumblr

1 min read
So I finally joined all the cool kids on Tumblr: carolinejohnsonart.tumblr.com/

Currently sharing art revisions for the Of Stars and Swords trade, as well as concept art for arc 2.  Scifi short comics concepts will start popping up in the next few weeks.

Will probably stop posting new art here, I've noticed for a while that it's just not getting the mileage that it used to for all the hassle it is to submit art.  Will continue to check my inbox from time to time.

...who knows how many to go!

Today we uploaded for the 52nd week straight, thus putting us at one full year of comics.  Of course the journey, for us, started much earlier than that.  Graham started timelining and writing in Fall 2010.  An entire wall in our office was covered in post-its outlining the plot.  I started pencilling the first page the following January, while visiting my grandparents.  We uploaded the first page October 20, 2011.  And now here we are!

Seren's gone from willful child to willful teenager. She's been reunited with her father only to lose him again. She saw the dead rise and Helmund's army force them back into the ground. She's had one shot at revenge taken from her, but another yet remains.

Next week begins year two! Under Seren's advisement, the group splits up and the halves head to Dergal's Enclave and Olgan Keep. But things are not always as they seem, and older, darker threats wait in the shadows for their moment to strike.

We hope you've enjoyed the journey thus far!

Still coloring it, but the first page of issue 2 for Of Stars and Swords will hit the site tomorrow!  I'm kinda reeling that we're already on our 3rd issue!

My main reason for updating this here journal is to announce that we have a table in artist alley for Megacon in March.  This will be our 5th year attending but our first year with a table.  We'll have Of Stars and Swords issues 0-2 printed for sale, as well as some poster prints and magnets, some of which I have yet to draw up.  Considering opening commissions for the con too!

Still have a ton of work to do ahead of the con, but we're super excited!

I've been pretty absent here of late.  Since last journal I've had two day jobs on top of the daily commitment to Of Stars and Swords.  I'm currently working as a preschool teacher and receptionist in Jacksonville.  I love my kids and come home with energy left over to work so it's pretty much perfect.

Megacon was very good to us this year.  We brought some pages from the next issue of OSAS to get reviewed.  This year's critiques came from Paul Pelletier, Nelson DeCastro, Robert Atkins, and Seth Mann.  We also got to bump into Larry Watts, who we met last year.  We've still got a few kinks to work out, but our critiques were overwhelmingly positive.  Seth and Larry saw our stuff last year so it was good to hear feedback on our improvement.  I'm still way too shy to do more than chat with Laura Martin, but I hope to have some color samples for her to rip apart next year.

Graham and our travel buddies convinced me to go to the Buffy/Angel panel with Nicholas Brendan and Charisma Carpenter where I learned two things: you shouldn't go to a panel if you haven't finished the show (only halfway through Angel, picked up where I left off in highschool) and Whedon fans are absolutely terrifying.

Today, we uploaded our last page for Issue 0 of OSAS!  Next week begins a new issue with new art.  We're super excited to get this next bit out as today's page is over 6 months old for us and the next page was drawn just a month ago.  The story's finally going to slow down a bit and introduce our characters.  We've got an awesome fight scene in the middle of the issue.  The world should really come to life.

I've begun the process of switching out the teaser images with the full pages for Issue 0.  I will be uploading pencils (or inks)  for all future pages.

We also have a Facebook fan page for OSAS!  Graham's going to post extra little stuff there, plus it's a great way for us to get in touch with our readers.  Mainly, we use it to share sneak-peeks and announce new pages going up.  I have this crazy little goal of getting 100 likes before March 7.  It's improbable but completely possible so spread the word!  We're already at 30!

Before I get started I want to share the link to the comic: ofstarsandswords.com

Graham and I started working on Of Stars and Swords about a year ago.  Its inspiration came from a Dungeons and Dragons campaign he ran back in college with a bunch of friends and myself.  It started as a gift to our friends, an extra story from the point-of-view of one of the main NPCs, showing the quest from a different perspective and continuing it further to show the aftermath of our actions.

Well, Graham couldn't contain it all in a short story.  He added new story arcs, new characters, new villains.  Currently he has over 100 pages of story written, while we've only managed to get through 20 pages of art.  It is no longer a story written only for a few.

The comic will update every Wednesday at noon.  Below every page will be some illustrated prose detailing more information about the world, history, characters, and even looks at scenes the comic may have simply glossed over.

There is already a wealth of information posted about the world the story takes place in and about the characters themselves.

This is where you come in:
All stories are made to be read and shared.  If you like what you see, please please tell someone about it.  If you have followers, please tell them to check it out!

And finally, I'd like to make a shout-out to the original players.  Your characters have changed and grown, but their core is still yours.
Aram, played by Jason Seibert, SeventhHunter
Baldur, played by Brent Gebhart
Chloe, played by Monique Blaize, sakura02
Elise and Marguerite, played by Karen Lyon, KurgenLagann
Nika, played by Miranda Bower, Rikasha

I played Barstof, all the rest are Graham's.
